them weapons of destruction, but I couldn't even make out one weapon in the
wall... It was just a clusterfuck of randomness that you slapped onto a
widescreen canvas. It honestly reminded me of those old school fractal programs
that you could use in DOS to render stuff.
Lots of work alone does not make a wall good, there's plenty of other factors
that have to be included to make a wall good.
I think crediting the original artist on the wallpaper itself is something that
should be required in all instances.
Who cares if you can't see it all the time? It's there to give credit, not
something to add any meaning to the wallpaper itself.
I don't really see a point in linking the original scan in the posts as a
requirement. Sometimes people like to show off the differences between the
original, but other times people would rather not have the scan shared. You
wouldnt want to see 20 wallpapers all using the same scan would you?
What about the people who don't even use art from scans? The kind of people that
vector images from screenshots or other sources. Do you expect them to upload
them to an image host so everyone can see? It's obvious they probably copied
whatever source image they used verbatim so i don't see a reason to link
it.
If you are angry because YOU yourself arnt getting credit for scanning in the
image, then you should reevaluate sharing the scans. You didn't draw the images
in the scans yourself. You are just taking someone else's work and sharing it
for everyone else with or without the original creator's permission. Plus a lot
of times people don't take the time to make note where everything used comes
from. I have brushes and scans that I downloaded over a year ago that I may or
may not use in the future. How am I supposed to know who the heck uploaded the
scan I'm using? What if I downloaded a scan previously from someone else and you
come and upload the same image at a later date. Do I credit both of you? It just
doesnt make sense.

Another thing about wanting credit.
How about the 70% of Minitokyo that has uploaded scans with the only description
as "not my scan."
Why should we give them credit for stealing something from someone else?
I'd be interested in entering a contest like this... but im not sure whether I'd
actually be able to produce a proper wallpaper that would convey my real
reaction..
The least i could do is try though.
EDIT1 :read the posts and and I am still interested in particiapting in the
project. The only thing bad about it being a project is that there is less
pressure on me to actually produce something.
EDIT2: You should probably do soemthing like pick differnt tracks and then have
people sign up for those tracks, THEN in the end you could create some sort of
compilation album that featured those tracks paired together with the wallpapers
the users created.
ALSO contest implies that the user would be submitting their best and usually
weeds out anyone who isnt truely interested, having it as a project sort of
invites people who wouldnt produce quality in their work which sort of degrades
the project all together.

most of the forums you guys mentioned.

If you must use a tutorial just use it to learn the interface. After that you
can just let your imagination run wild. Wallpapers should be based on your
artistic talent and ingenuity, not how well you can follow directions.
I lied, some tutorials that ARE worth looking at are those that teach you how to
clean and crop a scan. Stay away from any that involve a ton of filters to get
some craptacular effect.
It's okay to get help. But don't overdo it. If it gets to the point where
everyone is telling you to change something, then it's time for you to stop and
try again on a NEW wallpaper. Don't beat an already dead horse to death. You
might learn some new techniques but you will be left with a huge mess that
doesnt flow and isn't yours anymore.
You make wallpapers for people to enjoy, but the most important part is that you
enjoy your work. Because that's what it is, its YOUR work. Your beginning
wallpapers will never compare to the ones that the veterans are putting out.
They have put a lot of time in effort in building up their artistic sense. They
can look at a scan and visiualize what colors would go well with it and how to
go about making the background. It's all about a sense of flow.
I could probably say more but i'm getting tired of this and i'll go back to
lurking.

tommarow.

Vectors dont do anything other than waste time for the person making it. What's
the point of creating a vector if you arnt going to do anything with it. Trust
me, it is NOT a viable solution for recg, there are wayy more techniques to be
used that can produce wayy better/more natural results.
The only reason vectors should be used are if the entire wallpaper is vectored,
but the BG has to be original not just a remake of the scan's.

picture and tracing it... and what does it prove other than you can use the pen
